Makita Rolls Out New GD0603 Compact 1/4″ Die Grinder

A new look at an old tool.  The return of a compact 1/4″ die grinder with the Makita GD0603.

 

This Spring Makita is releasing a new compact 1/4″ die grinder.  The Makita GD0603 compact die grinder will be shipping within a month or so of this writing.  If you think this new GD0603 looks familiar it’s because it should.  It’s almost identical to the old GE0600 which was discontinued years ago.  See the picture below.  Many people remember the old Makita GE0600 compact die grinder which was very popular amongst certain users.  Many engine shops were known to love them for porting and polishing heads since it’s compact size made it ideal for the task.  The new GD0603 will slide nicely right into that same slot.

Updated Motor Features

The old GE0600 was a great tool but also dated at the same time.  Makita has incorporated some new features into the GE0603.  Most of these features revolve around the motor.  The motor now features a protection feature which protects the it for longer tool life.  It also has a powder-coated field that protects the motor from dust and debris for again for longer tool life.

Compact Size

The magic behind the GD0603 is all in it’s size.  Or lack there of.  The overall length of only 11-3/8″ is a couple inches shorter than other competing models.  Also the 2-1/2″ barrel diameter is more slender than most.
